Everyone is familiar with Mario these days, he's basically become the spokesperson for Nintendo. Many adults today still connect strongly with Mario because he was a big part of their childhood. Many baby boomers recognize Mario because they bought his games for their kids back in the 80's. Today's younger generation is being entertained and captivated by Mario in new versions of his games for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. But how did this humble plumber reach superstar status? In this article we'll look at the origin of one of the world's most recognizable characters.

Donkey Kong and Jumpman - Mario made his debut in the classic arcade game called Donkey Kong. In this game he was known only as Jumpman, and he wasn't a plumber, he was a carpenter. Gaming technology was so rudimentary back then that the game designers made Mario look the way he does because they couldn't program him to look any better. They couldn't get too detailed so instead of a mouth he got a moustache. Instead of hair he got a hat. And he wore overalls so you could decipher what his arms were doing.

Mario Bros. - The next game to feature Mario was another arcade game called Mario Bros. In this game he was first changed to a plumber, and given the name Mario. He took on his Italian-American persona and joined his brother Luigi in fighting creatures that came out of the sewer. This game was very popular in Japan, but went largely unnoticed in the States. It led to the eventual development of its sequel: Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. - This is when Mario's fame skyrocketed. When the Nintendo Entertainment System hit the American marketplace and there seemed to be an NES in every home in the USA. Every kid was either playing Mario or talking about it. He became a household name and established himself as a cultural icon. In this game Mario still has to save the princess, but now he must defeat the evil boss Bowser, and rescue the princess from his castle.

Sequels and Spin-offs - Following the success of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo has created an entire franchise of games involving Mario and his friends. For example, Mario Kart is a go kart racing game that features Mario and his cohorts zipping around various tracks in a race to be first. Another Mario hit is Mario Party, where Mario and his buddies compete in mini-games to try and collect the most stars. Even some characters featured in Mario games have been given their own spin-offs. Yoshi, the friendly green dinosaur is featured in Yoshi's Island, and Wario, Mario's nemesis, enjoys his own franchise of games called Warioware and Wario Land.

Playing the Game of Kalooki

Kalooki is a card game based on melds. It is fun and interesting once you figure out the basic rules. However, the rules may be rather different from other traditional card games that you are familiar with. So if you interested in learning more about the game of Kalooki, perhaps you may find this article useful. Here is how to play a game of Kalooki.

The game starts out by distributing 13 cards to each player. The remaining cards are then left on the stock pile. The game requires 2 to 6 players, so you can't play this game alone. You have to involve your family and friends.

Each player will have his or her turn. During a turn, a player must draw a card either from the stock pile, or the discard pile. The turn must end with the player discarding some cards on the discard pile. The basic rules of the game revolve around melds. You can only discard cards when they form melds. Melds are card combinations that allow you to discard the cards in your hands. The goal is to be the first player to finish discarding all the cards in your hands.

As you can imagine, each player will be trying to figure out the best way to discard all the cards they have. Remember, you can only discard cards only if there is an available meld (combination) for you to do so.

Like all card games, there are various strategies you can use to beat the competition. In Kalooki, two common strategies used are "Hunt" and "Going out". Using the Hunt strategy, the player holds on to the cards in his or her hands. When the other players start to have lesser cards as they continue to discard their cards, that also means that it gets harder and harder for them to form melds. That is when the Hunt player strikes. The Hunt player will then discard melds all at one go, easily overtaking all the other players. This is a very popular strategy because there is an element of surprise.

The Going Out strategy is the reverse of the Hunt strategy. That means the player gradually discard cards one at a time until all the cards have been discarded. This strategy is less exciting, but it's highly effective as well. Ultimately, the strategy that a player chooses depends on the hand that the player is dealt with. A skilled Kalooki player will know which strategy to use based on the cards that he or she is holding.

The game of Kalooki is not often mentioned in social gatherings. Therefore, many people still don't know about this fun card game. But there are signs of the rising popularity of the game of Kalooki. So be sure to learn how to play this game so that you won't be left out in the next social gathering!

Unlike most countries in the Western world, divorce does not exist in the Philippines. The only way to terminate a marriage recorded in the Philippines is to process an annulment case through the Philippine judiciary system

Marriage as a social institution is so revered in the Philippines that the 1987 Constitution actually includes a Section 2 writing "Marriage, as an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family and shall be protected by the State." Further, in Section 1 it is written "The State recognizes the Filipino family as the foundation of the nation. Accordingly, it shall strengthen its solidarity and actively promote its total development.

However, the government does recognize certain conditions for which voiding a marriage would be considered. The Family Law Code of the Philippines specifically deals with annulments and it sets forth under four Articles (35,36,37,38 and 45) in Chapter 3 of the Code the conditions under which an annulment can be considered.

The filing of an annulment case in the Philippine legal system is available to anyone who was married in the Philippines. This includes both Philippine citizens and foreigners, and both those individuals currently residing in the Philippines and those residing outside the Philippines. Any Philippine citizen married in the Philippines who remarries without an annulment granted by the Court would be committing bigamy in the Philippines. As long as one is still a Philippine citizen, any divorce granted by a court outside of the Philippines is not recognized by the Philippine government.

The time for an annulment case (called a "Petition for Annulment of Marriage") can vary significantly, as no two cases are the same. Some involve child custody issues and property issues. Some are contested while others are uncontested. The initial filing requires extensive documentation, and some petitioners are quicker to deliver the documentation to their lawyer, while others drag their feet. In general, a "simple" case could take 12 to 15 months, whereas a more complex case could take up to two years.

For a foreigner seeking an annulment, the cost is not so much the issue as is knowing where to start, who to trust, who to communicate with who can act as a liaison or bridge between their annulment need and the Philippines legal system process.

Lawyers handling annulment cases in the Philippines normally request a 50% deposit in advance, which is placed in a trust fund, and drawn against as the case proceeds. Depending on each lawyer's policy on the matter and what you negotiate, the balance is usually paid on a "as you go" basis, meaning once the trust fund amount is depleted, you will be billed and expected to pay as the work proceeds.

The decision to file for an annulment is a serious and expensive matter. Just remember, in those deepest moments of frustration and emotional pain, the sun sets each day, but it always rises the next day. For every valley you are walking in, there is always a mountaintop you will soon be standing on. It is the cycle of life - whenever you are suffering pain, get ready for the good times, because good times always follow bad times.

PLEASE help me on Drawn To Life: The Next Chapter?

OK, so I heard what the ending of it is like, (making me unsure about beating the game) but on the Drawn To Life wiki, I saw something that said about Salem, "...after that he can only be found through the Secret Gate" so that hab me thinking, what DOES happen when ya' beat Wilfre and that stupid ending plays anyhow? Do I start all over? Do I start back on the last boss? Do I unlock something after I beat the game? (Which explains the "Secret Gate" the wiki mentioned.) Just what happens? I have spent part of 2-3 days on the wiki and YouTube (mainly YouTube, both failed, though I did see some neat glitch videos) trying to figure it out! Help me. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Once you finally defeat Wilfre, you see the ending play and then whoop de do you're back in the Raposa World again and everyone is saying 'You've got to defeat Wilfre!' No matter how many times you kill him, the game will take you back to before you've killed him. Stupid, huh?

Nintendo DS WFC Nick-Name issue?

I'm having a problem with my Nintendo DS connection to Nintendo WFC.

They keep saying that my nickname, "Horyo" cannot be used and I must change it. It said this for my Bomberman Land Touch! 2 and Tetris DS.

However, Mario Kart DS allows me to use it.

But when I changed my name from Horyo to a regular name, Bomberman Land Touch! 2 still says I'm using my old nickname and won't let me play. Mario Kart says the same thing (that my nickname is Horyo) but still allows me to play.

Tetris DS accepts me as my new name.

So I'm confused, are there certain nicknames that cannot be used for certain games? I didn't want to alter my nick too much because most of my games go off of "Horyo."

i don't know, maybe "horyo" means something really bad in spaninsh or something. but by most games on the ds you need to change your name in the game and not in the ds itself, so start bomberman, go to options and see if you can change online, or nickname options. maybe this will help.

Freekstyle, while generally a strong game, can't help but be the lesser cousin of EA Sports Big's smash hits SSX and SSX Tricky. The moves are more complicated, the learning curve is steeper, and the charm is relatively absent for this title compared to its more successful predecessors. And woe to those who miss a steep jump and expect to hit Restart, as in SSX. You'll be forced to take the jump again, with much less velocity than before you wiped out. Plus, you'll need to hit it over and over and over, a fact that makes initial play somewhat tedious. Still, it's unfair to punish Electronic Arts for their past perfection.
